Arsenal Anguish

Its turning into a season to forget for Gunners fans. Many thought that after losing last years Europa League Final to Chelsea, They could at least push on and improve in the 2019/20 compaign.

The season started with a win away to Newcastle Utd and another 3 pts were picked up the following weekend in a victory at home to Burnley, but that was when it started to turn sour for the London Club who have only won 3 League games since 22/09/19.

6 League wins so far …

  • v Newcastle (Away)
  • v Burnley (Home)
  • v Aston Villa (Home)
  • v Bournemouth (Home)
  • v West Ham (Away)
  • v Manchester United (Home)

Only Watford and Norwich have won fewer games and its the lowest tally of wins for Arsenal since the 1912-13 season in which Woolwich Arsenal as they were called were relegated

In a season that has seen them have 3 different managers:

Emery (4 Wins)

Ljungberg (1 Win)

Mikel Arteta (1 Win)

The current crop of players are along way away from the INVINCIBLES of 2003-04 season

Arsenal currently sit 10th in the Premier League just 7 pts off the relegation zone and a staggering 42 pts away from Champions in waiting Liverpool with 12 games remaining this season. While its still possible they could get a top 4 finish if form picks up, its also very reasonable to think that Arsenal won’t have any European football next season.

its very early in the Arteta reign and performances on the pitch have tightened up, this season is certainly a difficult and frustrating one for the fans at the Emirates.

West Ham Woes

Languishing just above the relegation zone of the Premier League,West Han fans would of been hoping the re-appointment of David Moyes could give the team the new manager bounce to lift the side clear of danger

After just 45 minutes of his second reign as Hammers boss things were looking pretty good, 3-0 up against fellow strugglers Bournemouth (eventually winning 4-0). But that new manager bounce lasted for that solitary 90 minutes

Following that result the Scot’s Side have only picked up 1pt with a draw v Everton,in the process losing games to Sheffield United,Leicester and Liverpool and also exiting the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side West Brom.

Looking Forward

  • While being beaten by Leicester and Liverpool are not entirely surprising, the London clubs next few fixtures don’t get any easier.
    • Brighton (H)
      Manchester City (A)
      Liverpool (A)
      Southampton (H)
      Arsenal (A)
      Wolves (H)
      Tottenham (A)
      Chelsea (H)

After Saturdays fixture with Brighton the Hammers then have 7 games in a row v top 10 sides, including away trips to Anfield,The Emirates and The Etihad.

Currently sitting outside the drop zone on goal difference alone,West Ham fans and players could be in for a tough couple of months trying to pick up the the required points to remain in England’s top division

It looks like a Goliath kind of task for the London club,But will David be up for the fight
